Don’t Overtighten Your Oil Filter
Just don’t f-ing do it. Especially if you’re gonna sell me your car.

That’s the aftermath of the screwdriver method. The screwdriver method:
- Hammer screwdriver into oil filter. (Hot) oil will drain/spurt out on you.
- Using screwdriver for leverage, twist oil filter as far as space allows (‘91 Acura Integra: ~1/16 turn).
- Cuss and grunt, repeat.

Next time get a 3-4 foot piece of pipe and slide it over the handle of your filter wrench (Leverage rocks!). Or just call me and I’ll come over and help. :)

there’s barely enough space to even get the filter wrench on… not enough to actually use it. I think acura pumps their engines thru gzip or something.

I got this handy dandy thing that is a piece of square stock (3/8) and a loop of strap. You put the filter in the loop, twist the square stock until it tightens, attach your favorite 3/8in socket wrench and TWIIIISSSSSTTTTTT…
Cussing and grunting optional.
I’ve actually used one of these things on a stuck filter that damn near crushed the filter because of all the torque generated.
